Michael Holland is a multidisiplinary artist based in Manchester. The work selected for this newly created exhibition ‘All Those Rainy Days That Nobody Talks About’ illustrates the journey made by Vineta Gailite and Michael Holland across Europe to the south eastern corner of Latvia where during 2017 they went about exploring and creating a garden.
The collage works are made from found scraps of paper found in a redundant library, their temporary dwelling in a small hamlet called Eisāgi and it’s surrounding villages. All the paper have memories attached and now reworked are sort of personal scrap book of compositions made on the journey.
The title of this exhibition alludes to the many moments not to be documented in photographs. Days too rainy to be constructing the garden, but days perfect for working indoors on sewing projects, collages and paintings….continually working with the seemingly endless supplies of materials, both natural and man made.
Leila Lilacc is a Manchester based Graphic Designer and Illustrator. Her process involves continuous drawing in sketchbook, reworking ideas and compositions before pencilling in the final design. Sometimes the outcome will stay ‘by hand’ but often scanning and processing digitally works best.
